Stormy weather

Those of you live by me know that we've had a lot of rain since Thursday. I'm not sure that "a lot" is even an adequate way to describe it! After the first round of storms on Thursday, my mom I were in my backyard and noticed that all the buds on my peony bushes had blossomed from the warm weather and rain. Unfortunately, all of them were pummeled by the rain, so they were almost laying on the ground. Since we new more rain was coming and that they wouldn't stand up again, Ethan and I cut all of the flowers and arranged them in a vase. It was a beautiful way to bring the outdoor colors inside!

This morning as we were driving to church we were shocked as to how high a nearby creek was. We couldn't go check it out right away because more rain showers rolled through this afternoon (plus it was so humid and hot that Jason and I didn't want to be outside!). After the storms finished, and the temperature had dropped significantly, we decided to take a walk and check out the rising water.

This is the picnic area in the park that we usually walk to. The creek is supposed to be a significant distance behind the covered pavilion. Not today!

I think Micah was having a hard time comprehending why we quickly told him "no" when he asked to go on the slide. If there wasn't so much unusual water to look at, I think he would have put up more of a protest! The creek is usually back by the trees.

Our city just put in some nice exercise stations along the walking trails. Ummmm....I think they may have to redo this one! Once again, the creek is generally nowhere near here!

After we wandered around the flooded park, we moved farther along the trails. We like to walk this way because we can take the trails in through the woods to a small boardwalk (Ethan calls it the "wood bridge creek"). Once again, it's quite obvious that we didn't make it very far! We watched a family ride their bikes through the middle of the "puddle". The water was about halfway up their bike tires. It will be interesting to see how long it takes all the water to go down. It may be a while since there are storms on the radar for tonight and I think they predict more for tomorrow!
